Two Poems from our Horses Poetry Collection

RACE HORSE

Author: Beverly Seawright

Poem:
RACE HORSE

Radiant, sleek, shiny coat of honey brown
Deserving to wear a princess' crown
Georgeous I am, will not accept anything less
Beautiful eyes hynotizing the best
Legs so shapely and strong and long.

Writing about me with beautiful songs
Teeth strong and pearly white
Personality keen, smart, out of sight
Strutting through the neighborhood
I am queen in this neck of the woods.

Eyes sharp like an eagle
Endowed with papers that makes me legal
Fast, I can run with the wind
I am perfect, almost without sin
Getting complements every day
Food is special in no other way.

All are envious who stand next to me
Lavishing this time for the future I can't
foresee.
Today, my prize I will claim
Tomorrow, I will be in the Hall of Fame.

A TRIBUTE TO SHOGUN LODGE

Author: Victoria Giles

Poem: A TRIBUTE TO SHOGUN LODGE

Farewell old Shogun, you showed us your heart,
Racing will never be the same, you were second to none.
You just kept on trying, and really did your part,
You did what you did best, and that was to run.

On the way to the barrier he was always proud,
Galloping out with a spring to his stride.
Noise didn’t worry him and neither did a crowd,
Always moved easy, looked a beauty to ride.

He raced against a lot of the greats,
Lord Essex, Catbird and even Align.
Became known as “Captain Courageous” to his mates,
And he even came a close second to Sunline.

Always thundered down the straight with the greatest force,
Blew straight past the others as if he could fly.
For all that remember that brilliant horse,
Why not now raise your glasses high.

Think of his spirit and make him the most,
And send word of his life to the Gods.
I urge you all to make a toast,
To grand old Shogun Lodge.
