SONG FOR THE HORSES: NATIVE AMERICAN CHANT STYLE

  Song For the Horses

If we forget our way, we have forgotten
the horse is not bridled by the rainbow anymore.

Running on the ancient paths
we remember
who we are.

We are the hoof beat on the Grandmother earth.
We are the mane flowing on His holy breath.
We are the ears to hear the Yeis forgotten words.
We are the eyes to see our Creator’s hands
unfolding before us
all of our lives.

Around the Sacred Mountain
run the blue horses;
in the eye of the Sun bearer Bekosdl
we are born.
Out of Spanish worlds we have come
to this one and made our home.

We are strangers in our own land
but we live in the land’s ways
and make it our own again.

We run with the Holy Wind:
drumming the earth with our hooves,
crying in the night with our sadness and fear,
dying when we are persecuted,
and living at last when the rains come.

Oh beautiful horse,
rustle the grasses with your presence,
cloud the sky with your eyes,
cloak the mountain with your hair,
beat the rainbeat with your hooves,
take the rainbow in trade for us,
for we, your children
are left behind..

Oh Turquoise Mountain
on which I was born,
grace us with your strength.
Oh Turquoise horse
from which I was born,
grace me with your strength.
Oh Turquoise Woman
from whom I was born,
grace me with your strength.
and lend grace to us, your people.

Oh beautiful horse, I see you and say:
rustle the grasses with your presence,
cloud the sky with your eyes,
cloak the mountain with your hair,
beat the rainbeat with your hooves,
take the rainbow in trade for us,
for we, your children
are left behind.

LITTLE MINTA

Author: Sarah Pearce

Poem: LITTLE MINTA

When I see you, so graceful and free
I feel as if you could be part of me.
The way you just float,
the pattern you move,
I feel as if I could be part of you.
The way that you look,
I know there is something you miss,
Believe me I know what that one thing is.
For the beauty you are,
for the joy that you bring,
I can tell you now, you make up for all of that one thing.
For your lines of pride, for having nothing to hide.
For arguing not and accepting my faults.
I owe all to thee, just for accepting me.
For breaking my fall when there seemed to be nothing at all.
For the good times you've given me,
Those joyrides we loved.
You've given me more than any one person could possibly ever have.
We've seen us through good,
we've seen us through bad,
and I know you'll stick around when nobody else has.
We're a partnership in crime,
a partnership in the making of time.
But I'm proud to say, my Little Minta,
"You're in my heart and mind."
