Two Poems from our Horses Poetry Collection

WILD AT HEART

Author: Lauren Hadenfeldt

Poem:
WILD AT HEART

  This band of untamed horses,
follow a path, and often change their courses.
No one can tell them where to roam.
They live in this wild pasture land called home.

Nothing but wind can groom their manes.
They gallop effortlessly on these stretching plains.
They graze on this dry pasture, so wide.
And only to themselves may they confide.

They are quickly ready to defend or fight.
And they shelter one another against the night.
Who are "they" you may surprisingly ask.
They are American Mustangs, and prosper with each and every task.

But their spirits never will be tamed.
Yet you can still ride them, and they can be named.
In representing themselves, and in being free, they will gladly take part.
Because they have, and always will, remain true to themselves, wild at heart.

THE LAST ANZAC

Author: Charles Iseppi

Poem: THE LAST ANZAC

Another ANZAC has died for
the pride of Australia,
battle scarred and brave,
For the pride of Australia,
in his youth he had
Bully beef and biscuits,
the sort you couldn't
Break with a shovel,
and water from arab wells,
for that was his comfort,
From the desert plains,
to the battle fields
Of France, he fought
And shed his blood, and
the blood of his brothers,
for as the going down of
the sun and in the morning,
we shall remember them.
