STORY OF THE BRUMBIES

Author: Tamara Dus

Poem:
STORY OF THE BRUMBIES

  This is our land.
It's where we call home.
Where the animals are free,
And the great eagle roams.

We are one with the land,
There are no boundaries set,
We will always belong here,
free from fret.

Between the valley and the skies,
We live as one,
A loving family,
under the sun.

We deserve to be here,
Like the wind whispering through the trees.
You shall never take us,
because we are free.

The sun shining above us gives us light,
Let nothing come between us,
because here it feels so right.

No rules apply here,
No reins or saddles can tie us down,
No bridal around our faces
whom you may call a horse's crown.

Nothing you say can control us,
There is nothing for you here,
We are happy to be home,
where there is nothing to fear.

We're not for you to ride upon,
Your burdens are not for us to bear,
You can lock us up and tie us down,
but you cannot keep us there.

You will never take us,
We are not yours to keep,
We are not for you to control
while you are rounding up sheep.

No matter how many times you take us,
We'll find a way,
To get back home,
and it's where we'll stay.

Here we can run swiftly,
Like an emu across the plains,
It's the wind calling us
that leads us home once again.

This place is pure rapture,
We are proud to call it home,
Where the animals are free,
and the eagle continues to roam.

This place is where we belong.
Here we are free.
This is homeland,
and it's where we are supposed to be.

THE COWARD AND THE HERO

Author: Ramya Sriram

Poem: THE COWARD AND THE HERO

She stood at the edge of an abyss,
Her face tear-stained, her mind full
Of trifling troubles and petty worries-
Loving parents and a good home she had,
Yet the iron chains of self-pity and
Selfishness gripped her mind,
Blocking out all sanity.
Escapade for herself, but leaving behind
A lifetime of sorrow and grief.
Taking a deep breath she jumped,
Not realizing...
The mountains that behind her stood,
The sun that before her shone.

She stood at the edge of an abyss,
Her face tear-stained, her clothes in rags,
A father lost in war, a mother ailing,
Her young mind scarred with wounds,
Yet acceptance, determination and
Courage reaffirmed her faith
Taking a deep breath she turned around
To admire...
The mountains that behind her stood,
The sun that before her shone.
