ELOQUENT PRAISES

Author: Abiola Ayoola

Poem:
ELOQUENT PRAISES

  O drums, beat; O talking drums, talk; sakara, sekere,
Omele, agogo, iyaalu, benbe, bata, be not on strike.
Sakara sound womu womu, praise Divinity.
Songs, sing; dundun dun; hands, clap;
Bodies, wiggle and wriggle to the Trinity.
Let nobody stand stiff; nobody dances standing stiff.
Shake, shimmy, oscillate, vibrate to celebrate.
Celebrate the Sovereign One, the Holy One of Israel,
The Mighty One of Jacob, the Lord, strong and Mighty;
The Lord, Mighty in battle; the Lord of Efosa, the God of Idahosa
Who has put the crowning glory upon the pedigree of degrees
Of his faithful servant, the Spokesman, the shepherd of the Sanctuary –
The Envelope of Hope filled with tropes of Hope;
The virgin phenom without venom;
The celebrity of dignity dignified by Divinity
If you wanna see my Shepherd, look up: he’s at the top of the tree –
At the pinnacle of his profession: the very essence of excellence.
Lark, skylark, goldfinch, canary, nightingale, blackbird,
All songbirds, sing birdsongs; praise the Sovereign.
Trees, and shrubs, sway and sough to the rhythms of the whistling winds.
For this is the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our sight.
Men might delay but they cannot deny divine destiny.
The dance of my shepherd is like the fantastic frolics of fanciful
Fleet-footed fawns on a massive magical massif of myrrh.
O drum set, set the songs in motion,
For when the anointed shepherd bounces and dances,
Fragrance of frankincense fills the air: such is the incense of power –
Incense of excellence that incenses the enemies.
O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good,
And for His mercies endureth for ever.
Let all Lionlamps of Hope baa and roar
Unto Heaven eloquent praises.

IT'S DIFFERENT FROM OVER HERE

Author: Holly Kehler

Poem: IT'S DIFFERENT FROM OVER HERE

Look at it this way
No look at it that way
But which way is the right way?
Better yet, is there even a right?
You stand on ground and you stand on the cloud
It's so pretty down here
It's so pretty up here
No it's not
No, no I guess it's not
So will compromise of an internal emotion make the perspective of the view better?
See it your way
And see it mine
You will understand then
It comes with time
