Solitude. Perfect peace.
The final shrouds of night’s
Blackness begin to fade.
A cup of coffee, favorite quilt.
Well used Adirondack chair.
I settle in for my favorite part of the day.
Dogs lay quietly at my feet.
They, too, see to know this
Special moment – here today, lost tomorrow.
When did Diva’s muzzle get so grey?
Aah, we are aging together, my faithful
Friends. Gracefully, subtly, but it is there.
Slowly, the glow of the new day
appears over the eastern horizon
of the lake.
Growing in intensity. Suddenly appearing,
Radiant life force.
Proof of God. The sunshine of a new day.
Gifts we can only imagine. New choices,
A clean slate. How will these blessings unfold
Before us?
A poem, a painting, a story, a sketch.
A prayer. Our refuge in pain,
Our strength in weakness.
As I walk along the shoreline
I marvel at the beauty of the
Sights, sounds, creatures.
You Lord, must be exceedingly lovely
To create such incredible
Wonder in your image.
My friends welcome me as
The day passes on. Morning coffee.
At sunset, wine on the deck.
I praise what is truly alive in the
Calm water of my refuge. My
Faithful friends at my feet.
Twilight is unfolding. As the sun
Sets, a billion stars appear in
The night sky. Perfect peace with myself.
