Half a world away
from this the quiet life I've known
I stare in disbelief
at the horrors I've been shown
The bullet shattered walls of clay
that stretch across this barren land
portray the homes of Afghan children
who's future drifts upon the sand
A country wrought with years of war
has left its mark within the dust
that blows across this war torn land
of a people lost in time and trust
We stand as guardians to their future
that's been buried in the past
to help them rise out of the dust
and build a land to last
And yet the threat is very real
from those who'd steal their will
to turn them back a thousand years
and hold them captive still
Half a world away
will never seem the same
when memories of this land and time
come flooding back again.
