Perfect Girl in a Judgmental World

Author: Krista Benton

Poem:
Perfect Girl in a Judgmental World

I look in the mirror and I see a face
And I see a young girl with exquisite taste
Her hair just right, her clothes all neat
Her taste in music just can’t be beat.
No worries in the world
To everyone else, she was the perfect girl

But inside her head, thoughts consumed her mind
Of school and boys and it put her in a bind.
She never knew what to do
Do this or that or have one or two.
Inside she was insecure and shy
She would never go and talk to a guy
But she put up the front that she was all cool
At least at school

When she was home so was a different person
Quiet and shy her work always done
The mask she put on came off and was put in her bag
Waiting and ready for the next day laying by a new fashion mag
Little to her parents knowledge, she cried herself to sleep
Knowing that at school she was in deep

The images and words of the day stayed
And haunted her dreams even during the day
Inside she felt scared that they would find out
Who she was and cast her out
Her greatest fears were always in the front of her mind
Watching and waiting for the perfect time

I look in the mirror and I see not just a face
I see the faces of girls all over the place
They stand in front of a mirror with make-up and hair spray
Hoping that it will cover the real them during the day
They worry about everything in the world
Thinking to themselves, I can’t be that perfect girl.

A Girl

Author: Kymberly Butchko

Poem: A Girl

i can see a girl
she has a gorgeous heart and a warm face
she stands by two children and a man
conveying the embracing arms of love

people walk past her in awe
frozen by her beauty, bewilded by her happiness
she sees the good in all
the pain and suffering does not drag her down
she is uplifted by things unknown to me

is it the seashell in the sand
or the sun shining through those trees
what about the way warmth engulfs her toes?
can her pleasant existence
be derived by something so innocent and trivial?

as i sit here watching her
i wonder how her eyes can sparkle
like sun beaming through a dewdrop
i have pondered this many a while
i have decided that now, i need not know

perhaps if i knew her secret
she would be just another girl
instead, her uniqueness enchants me
and i am puzzled and facinated by her soul

if you have ever wondered the meaning of life, look at this girl
she shows me the important things in life
she leads me to a better place i am sure
so tell me something, can you see the girl?
