College life

Author: Amber Baylor

Poem:
College life

Oh, my goodness! What am I gon’ do!
I got bills to pay now and a car note due!
I thought college was going to be fun!
Well, it’s fun sometimes but I’m mostly on the run
I’m good at getting my education,
But now that I’m on my own there’s room for so much distraction.
Some parties I can’t go to because of finals, for one.
Then guys come at me so I say ‘You don’t want none of this hun’
Even though I’ve got determination, the temptation is real,
There’s so much to see, do, experience, and feel.
And having a roommate is such a trip,
Because she’s always tryin’ to flip the script.
I have to admit, I love the college life
The guys here look as sharp as a knife
Having your own life can be fun
Sitting in your dorm room looking at the sun
But all the trials it seems I can’t take
May sometimes put my future at stake
But that’s part of adult life, or so it may seem
But the approval I get from my parents makes me beam!
And though there are some times of trial and strife,
There’s no way I would give up the college life.

Role model

Author: Gabrielle Goodling

Poem: Role model

When the world is caving in and may feel small.
You make me bold, brave, and give me the courage to stand tall.
You are there when I have a crest-fallen day,
You make my life seem easy, and make me as bright as May.
You taught me to believe in God’s might,
Now I believe in Him and pray day and night.
You told me to think smart and to be very wise,
And never to wake the day with lies.
You may have taught me how to make honey and jam,
But the most precious thing you taught me was how to be me and that’s who I am.
