Spring time beauty,
Hair falls down over her face,
Puts on a smile,
But it only lasts for awhile
Peaches and cream skin,
For a moment she’s forgotten him,
Until the rain falls
And then she’s alone again
Blood red lips,
How she longs to kiss
The rain
Contemplates,
Catching the last train
Out of town,
Tonight
Away from this place,
Pack her bags, put her family to disgrace
Aims so high,
When she is alone she’ll cry,
Beside a mirror,
That torments her figure
Listen to her heart and it doesn’t get much better,
It tells her that she wants him, but her mind won’t let her
Doesn’t have a choice, career comes first
So try to explain, if this is joy, then why does it hurt?
Tired of being a small town beauty queen,
Wants to grace the covers of the city magazines
Believes she can amount to more than this,
Leave behind the one man, she’ll truly miss
Tired of being a small town splendour,
Wants to be held in his arms forever
But she believes she deserves better than this,
So she’ll leave behind the one she’ll one day truly miss
Sixty five now,
Her smile is gone
Her voice is broken,
Can’t sing her song,
Small town beauty queen,
Goes by unseen,
People pass,
They ask themselves
“She looks so familiar,
Where have I seen her before?”
Then someone else replies;
“Small town beauty queen,
We don’t see her much any more”
I remember, my days of beauty,
Put a smile on my face out of sense of duty,
Now my family are gone,
I’m old and frail,
Left the love of my life,
Yet to no avail
I never made it to the cover of a city magazine,
Now I have to question, was that really my own dream?
Open the newspaper,
On her birthday, now eighty three
Sees the name of the boy,
Says; “he once loved me”
Reads the line,
“In Gods hands for all eternity”
Cries, smiles, and says
“Soon that will be me,
We’ll be together again”
Looks out the window,
Steps into the rain
Tired of being a small town beauty queen,
Wants to grace the covers of the city magazines
Believes she can amount to more than this,
Leave behind the one love, she’ll truly miss
Tired of being a small town splendour,
Wants to be held in his arms forever
But she believes she deserves better than this,
So she’ll leave behind the one she’ll truly miss
