REACH OUT YOUR HAND

Author: Lynette Mcsweeney

Poem:
REACH OUT YOUR HAND

Reach out your hand deep into the mire
Snatch them from the enemy’s fire
Don’t be fooled by the darkness around
For if you look closer you will see they are bound
Bound by a web of lies and deceit
In a pit surrounded by walls so steep
They need our hands, they need God’s love
To just stop and look is not enough
They need us to see what’s hidden inside
Cause it might be a jewel that they hide
A jewel our Father wants for his crown
Don’t turn our backs and make him frown
We seem to forget where we have been
Hidden in darkness, jewels unseen
By the world that doesn’t even care
They just walk past and leave us there
Hidden in a pit of mire-y clay
Almost drowning we can’t see the day
But we weren’t forgotten, someone came along
They were filled with God’s grace, tall and strong
They reached out their hand, deep into the clay
They saved a sheep “gone astray”
They made God smile as he washed them clean
And they smiled too as they saw the gleam
For there within what looked like coal
Was a jewel that shone and sparkled like gold
A jewel so precious for Father’s crown
Resplendent in a pure white gown
So child, look closer and see what’s inside
For what might be hidden is God’s own prize

ESCAPE

Author: Tamarin Oblowitz

Poem: ESCAPE

I walk along the dimly lit path,
Leading to the voluptuous sand dunes and the placid ocean.
Slowly, my feet become positively accustomed to the pleasant sensation of the
Soft, innocent sand, which always seems to find a secure place in between the folds
Of my toes.

Tranquility has enveloped me.

As I walk further into the depths of my picturesque surroundings,
I am no longer confronted by the harsh and brutal issues of life.

Captivated.
Absorbed.
Intrigued.

The remote and distant lights reflect on the water, simultaneously
The moon lowers herself into the water,
I stand there watching, seduced by the vision,
And I am enticed to explore my peaceful realm more in depth.
The near moon, slowly fades into the distance,
And I turn,
Leaving it all behind...
