Two Poems from our Mother, mom, mommy Poetry Collection

Dear Mom,

Author: Mai-quyen Tran

Poem:
Dear Mom,

  Hey mom, are you listening?
Look at me, what are you seeing?
For you all I can give is love
But sometimes that isn't enough
Do you know that I'm trying my best?
Trying to to ace all those tests
Why is it hard to make you proud?
The silence sometimes is too loud
Tears roll down my cheeks at night
When will everything be all right?
Please just try and understand
I hold much more in hands
When you close your eyes and cry
A little bit inside of me dies
I need time to take it all in
You think I don't care about anything
I care more than you'll ever know
I just don't know how to let it show
Please know that I can't be perfect
Please know that I don't always make it
I need you everytime I fall
I need someone I can call
But I still know what's right and wrong
I know when I should stay strong
I think you expect too much from me
All I want is for you to accept me
I might not be the best in school
I don't always follow the rules
But I listen to the words you say
I'm changing each and every day
I'm not like I was before
I'm not that little anymore
But I still have lessons to learn
I still need somewhere to turn
So I'll pray to the Lord above
"Lord, let me good enough."

THE FORGOTTEN HEROINE

Author: Aida Moncivais-cavazos

Poem: THE FORGOTTEN HEROINE

She brought us into this world with such love and affection.
She instills in us morals and veers us in the right direction.
She cares for us so diligently and without dismay.
She takes us to church and teaches us how to pray.

She cooks and she cleans,
and washes our clothes in between.
She makes sure we are always well fed,
while providing a roof over our head.

She is a teacher although she holds no degree.
She is a referee when we don’t agree.
She is an attorney when we are in a bind.
She is also the judge and we get spanked in the behind.

She is a doctor with many specialties,
curing us of most everything using secret remedies.
She is a seamstress, sewing our clothes when it does tear.
She also advises us to ‘never get caught without clean underwear.’

She is a police officer keeping us safe from harm.
She holds the umbrella that shields us from every storm.
She is an entertainer in her own special way,
singing and dancing on days we can’t go out and play.

Who is this mentor in all sense of the word?
Our mother, the forgotten heroine, given to us by the good Lord.
She is truly our life, our world, and our love,
to compare only with the angels from Heaven above.
