Two Poems from our Mother, mom, mommy Poetry Collection

A Fragrant Rose

Author: Mary Shovlin

Poem:
A Fragrant Rose

(Written for Mother's Day, 2003 (UK)).

Mother, you have been with me all of my life
In everything you do, you show you care
From childhood to maturity, through all strife
I can always rely on you to be there

Through tears and tantrums, laughter and times of peace
Amidst bitter resentment, in times of war
You constantly forgive, you are a spring breeze
You are the peacemaker, that's what mums are for

I'd like to thank you for ev'rything you do
They make a difference, all the many little things
For conversation, companionship, advice too
The unconditional love that only a mother brings

I want to end this verse with a vote of love
A hug, a kiss and a bouquet of flowers
No greater love, surpassed only from above
Your rose's perfume permeates all bowers.

Too much to drink

Author: Katie Pottle

Poem: Too much to drink

from my bedroom i can hear the noise
don't wanna listen but don't have a choice
my parents are having a fight
and it's been going on all night
i can hear my mummy cry
and daddy telling her she's living a lie
he tells her he cannot stay
that he can't stand this another day
and then my mum mentions my name
asking dad if he thought i was a game
no i love her she means the world to me
but i just can't cope living with thee
i start to walk downstairs
open the door and see broken chairs
i ask them do they have to shout
keep out of it, you don't need to know what this is about
i feel my eyes fill up with tears
like mums do when dad shouts in her ear
he doesn't mean to upset us i don't think
it's just that he had too much to drink
