Two Poems from our Narrative Poetry Collection

Openness

Author: Molly Woulfe

Poem:
Openness

Openness is freedom of the mind.
Freedom is a ticket to your soul.
Your soul is open to your mind,
but is your mind ready for a blank slate,
a bright light in dank darkness?

The story of a boy

Author: Muhammad Iqbal

Poem: The story of a boy

There once was a boy from so far away
He came to America intending to stay
Things were difficult from the start
But he knew he could do it deep in his heart

He tried to stay in America so hard
But the problem is getting a green card
The day of nine eleven messed up his plan
He was still thinking its better than Pakistan

Mr. Furey helped him to be in shape
But the INS was filled with red tape
He was spending his days in tension
Thats why he was not doing anything with perfection

English was the language he was trying to speak
It seemed like his vocabulary was very weak
His aim was to go for Engineering
And that was the direction toward which he was steering

He was going to the technical school
He thought thats so cool
He was studying drafting without ever snoring
Even though most people think its quite boring

Everyday he bothers Mr. Furey
But Mr. Furey has his theory
He always calms him down
tells him to dont be playing around

He was not very bright
But he wants his grades to be right
He was trying to get his goals
But to get the goals he has to fill the very big hole

Thats the story of a boy who was trying to lead
I hope he will succeed.
