THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO BE FREE

Author: Leon Trotter

Poem:
THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO BE FREE

Playing around with so much ease and grace in the sea.
Opens up our eyes puts a smile on our face, just for you and me.
They come here to relax, give birth and out of harms way.
For just a few months they will be with us night and day.

Then one day they will leave us and wave to us their by by's.
As we stand and watch them swim away with tears in our eyes.
For those tears that run down our face they will flow.
Because when we will see them again we do not know.

Swimming out into the vastness of the oceans blue.
Are those mighty Whales that gave so much pleasure to me and you.
Where they go? What they do we have no idear?
Concerned for their survival is our greatest fear.

Swimming to warmer waters guided by the moon.
Are those mighty Whales, that may fall victim to someones harpoon.
Shame must fall upon those who strike that deadly blow?
That shame must come from everybody, those we dont even know.

Singing their beautiful songs as they swim the oceans blue.
Are those mighty Whales that gave so much pleasure to me and you.
They are so beautiful, they are the Angels of the sea.
For they are mammals just like you and me.

They have a right to swim,to swim the oceans blue.
For they have a right to be free, just like me and you.
Cruising the oceans in their slaughter ships.
Are those Whalers with their harpoons at their fingertips.

Many Whales have died in the years gone by.
Many Whales have died with a tear in their eye.
No matter what you think, they are mammals just like you and me.
And they have a right, a right to live.
They have a right to be free.

MURRAY AT MILDURA

Author: Lee Emmett

Poem: MURRAY AT MILDURA

hear tv noise in lounge
'Mission Impossible' theme
Tom Cruise looks ravishing
like when cat gets cream

hostess gone to bed
exhausted after hot day
her daughter doing jigsaw
patiently at play

my girl's reading book
lying, high-up feet
just wants to relax
after drive and heat

went to Murray's beach
biggest river in land
gums' silhouettes in lemon sky
after sunset grand

many families there
swimming and wading
best way to cool off
as daylight fading

mosquitoes start to buzz
swish them away
suddenly too many of them
decide cannot stay

Mildura like oasis
after Hattah Lakes
water birds abound
great holiday place makes
