BUSH RE-GENERATION, BALNARRING

Author: Lee Emmett

Poem:
BUSH RE-GENERATION, BALNARRING

this evening we sit on estuary bank
and watch wonderful bird life around
gracious black swan with red beak comes
into view and glides gently down
eight teal ducks appear near shore
hiding among the tall bulrush reeds
and a little blue wren stops to sit and
twitter beside us as we eat out tea

all at once a kayak comes up
and it turns out to be a lad
who does bush re-generation
and works for a fellow who had
once been involved in same group
as our friend; and before too long
they establish group of colleagues
who from past or to present belong

they talk about weeds, people and places
then strong young man carries his boat and
off he goes; and we think how remarkable
how bonds form, though folk seem first remote
by end of meal wattle bird calls, and raven
and butterflies as quiet stream leisurely flows
sun is setting, so we walk to beach where
seagulls dip, fish jump and seaweed grows

MERRICKS SUNSET

Author: Lee Emmett

Poem: MERRICKS SUNSET

eventually find view-place and sit

sun is deep gold and spreads its riches
through clouds, colouring them in gilt
as orb sinks below hilly horizon
warm rosy light through sky is spilt

magnificent deep red shades appear
and orange-yellow glow dissipates
in scoria-coloured rock pools, mauves
and magentas reflect spectacle ornate
