LAKE WENDOUREE BALLARAT

Author: Lee Emmett

Poem:
LAKE WENDOUREE BALLARAT

  once again Lake Wendouree
empty from prolonged drought
drove around perimeter
saw a few puddles about

lake tumbleweed blows on road
sometimes piles metres deep
becomes bit of a nuisance when
in yards and paddocks it creeps

many other lakes in area
have also been dry for a while
different bird species seen
for water they now fly miles

dry-bed recently dredged by clubs
boating associations train on lake
now have to travel long distances
for rowing and sailing events’ sake

ATISHA GARDEN

Author: Lee Emmett

Poem: ATISHA GARDEN

found shady spot
near friend’s work
she waters plants
shifts compost and dirt

presently atop
mound of greenery
weeding out strays
spreads mulch vigorously

unbelievable energy
drives her on
inspired by faith
and fellow worker gone

when he returns
from Irish family visit
will find flourishing garden
her still working in it
