Two Poems from our Nature Poetry Collection

D.S. Al Fine

Author: Nicole Knisley

Poem:
D.S. Al Fine

The song I sing is one of harmony
classical ambience in a modern world
holding on and moving forward
while standing still
and spinning.

where everyone is broken
with cracks
gaps
holes
craters
from the words of a few
that echo in the ears
of the deaf.
and only some will heal
the scars run too deep
and the scab of life
penetrates the soul
of the lost.

where the only thing
standing between you and eternity
is time.
and place
and position
and authority
and rules
and forgotten dreams
and realized nightmares
and that little glass box
that you tried to break with thunder
and failed.
tried to shake with the wonders of the earth
and failed.
tried to crack with dynamite
and failed.
but you hadn’t or wouldn't or didn't or couldn't
realize that you simply had
to step out.

I am this song
in every inch
and every cell.
in every breath.
in every beat
of the broken and shattered
and mended and bandaged
heart
that screamed
and cried
and sang
and felt
into the depths
ringing
echoing
hearing
seeing
needing
left wanting.

I am the treble clef
of this life
of this breathing
moving
shaking
giant.
who never sleeps
and never wakes up.
just three steps away
from the molten source.

I am the song
that, at its loudest,
sings ‘D.S. Al Fine!”
for those not forgotten
not lost
not deaf
not blind
or fake
or plastic
or broken.
but found
and saved
and taken
and wanted.
those who can feel
past the duct tape
and the staples
and the kindergarten glue
to the life within
breathing
wanting
needing
to feel something
anything.
the life that knocks
and waits
patiently
lovingly
carefully
so as not to break
the empty shell
that mothers the soul.

I am the vibrato
the ripples
on the pond
in the heart
from the fallen leaf:
small
but mighty
insignificant
until the ripple
creates another
and then the wave comes
from the single butterfly
who dared to flap its wings
and cause a tsunami
because it knows
and senses
and feels
and realizes
the power within
to change the world
with one
single
solitary
wave of a wing
the width of a page
of God’s Word
clear across the world.

I am that wing
and that leaf
and that being
who knows the power
that lies within
One.
that dares
and tests
and hopes
and dreams
and wishes
on a star
with the luster of melody
and the sweetness
of the bee
that dares
and tests
and hopes
and dreams
and wishes
to fly.

Our World

Author: Amy K

Poem: Our World

in a world of little people the bigger people die
and in the world of love and laughter the world will stay up high
but when the torment and deceit fall our future is unsure because that’s the way life is a
mixture of them all.
