VoicesNet International Poetry Competition

We publish poems to the Internet. We have been doing this since January of 2002.

Poems that are chosen for publishing in our monthly VoicesNet International Poetry Competition are published to our VoicesNet websites.

The following material will review the details of the Monthly VoicesNet Poetry competition.

International VoicesNet Poetry Competition

We offer the VoicesNet poetry competition each and every calendar month.

These contests are free to enter.

Poems must be submitted in English only.

We are NOT a Vanity Press.

Every poem submitted is read and rated by our editorial staff.

Submissions are accepted until the end of the month and are entered in the contest based on the timestamp recorded by the computer when the poem is submitted to our system.

Our Goal

We want to give all people an outlet to express themselves in many ways. The VoicesNet contests are just one of the ways for you to express yourself at VoicesNet®.

You can submit your work to us here to be reviewed for publication on our website.

Contestants will be notified by email of the progress of the contest.

Who is Eligible?

Poets of all ages are eligible and all styles of poetry are acceptable.

How and When to Submit

Submit your poems at any time during a month for that month's contest.

Submission Requirements

We have these basic requirements for poems to be considered for publication on our "VoicesNet" website .

Poems must be original works of the author submitting the writing.

Poems must meet all site guidelines as listed in our Terms of Use

The poet's full name (or pen name), age, country, and an always active email address must be provided. We notify you of the selection results and ratings via various email addresses coming from the domain so please make sure you do not block such emails. We will only send you contest related emails for contests that you have entered as late as 30 days after the contest winners are announced on the site.

The poet must be able to be notified via email of the results of the judging of their poem.

There are several criteria used for acceptance of the writing in to the Final round of judging.

The younger poets are judged by less stringent requirements, as the age of the poet goes up so do the standards for selection.

The judges who read the poems look for originality, rhythm, rhyme, and audience appeal among other things.

Each poem is first read for content only to make sure it meets the site guidelines. Then a poem is read independently by three separate VoicesNet literary judges. If any one of the judges awards a STAR to the submitted poem, then the poem will go on to the Final Round judging. Final round judging looks at any poems that received a star.

The top three poems are picked from the Final Round judging which only looks at poems that were previously given a star in the initial judging.

The judges also look for poems where the authors really care about the subjects or trivial subjects approached in a novel way.

Poems are looked at in the categories of: Creativity, English usage, Grammar/Punctuation, Readability, Pure Entertainment Value, and Cultural Significance.

When will winners be Announced

The Top 3 winners are announced after the 15th and before the end of the following month in the news blog on the home page and also listed on the Winners Hall of Fame located on the home page. The name of the Top Winner is also now tweeted to our growing number of Twitter followers.
