You Are

Author: Joan Benson Peterson

Poem:
You Are

  The Heavens speak:
rolling thunder proclaims Your voice.
My heart beats to Your rhythm
and I rejoice...

Your gentle breeze
caresses my very soul.
Upon my knees I fall
and am made whole.

You are the wind, the rain, the Life,
You are the twinkling of the stars...
and I know wherever I am, You are.
You are as close as You are far-
You are the beating of my heart,
and I know wherever I am, You are.

When sins have darkened me,
You cast me the Light of Your Love
that I may plainly see I'm still
within Your sight, from above.

We falling stars
are caught in the palm of Your hand,
redeemed to shine forever
through the Son of Man.

In love for us, by Your blood,
You conquered death,
that we may live beyond
our last mortal, dying breath...

From where I am, Your Loving Spirit
beckons me
to come home and live with You
eternally.

There is nothing my heart fears-
trouble flees, for You are here...
all things of this world will know
You are.

You are the Father and the Son,
the Holy Spirit-all in One,
and I know wherever I am
You are.

You are the twinkling of the stars,
You are the beating of my heart.
And I know wherever I am,
You are...You are!

Unity in Division

Author: Joan Benson Peterson

Poem: Unity in Division

There are people I know
who don't worship as I do,
yet they believe...yes they believe.
And it breaks my heart so-
we each are convinced "our" way is true,
the only way to be,
to see.

There are wars over who is right,
over who God favors in the fight...
as though the one is washed of sin,
as if we know which side will win.

Praying apart while we are alive,
we fill a church when someone has died
that we may pay our respects for the dead...
yet what divided us has not fled.

May the Spirit bind us all together
in love for our God
that we may live with Him forever-
Amen, amen, amen!

Whose way is right...
who is more precious in His sight?
How can one way to love Him be wrong?
Do not we all belong to Him?
Are we not all loved the same
as we all proclaim His Name?
Jesus, Lord of all...
His Father hears a sparrow fall-
He surely hears our plaintive call
for Him.

Born for all who will return to sand,
and crucified at our sinful hands
to live again, despite our shame
that we may live to praise His Name...
He came for all of us, not just some
that we may see His Kingdom come
and know that death can't crucify love,
whose Spirit raises us above
what can divide us.

May the Spirit bind us all together
in Love for our God
that we may live with Him forever...together.
Amen, amen, amen!
