Unity in Division

Author: Joan Benson Peterson

Poem:
Unity in Division

  There are people I know
who don't worship as I do,
yet they believe...yes they believe.
And it breaks my heart so-
we each are convinced "our" way is true,
the only way to be,
to see.

There are wars over who is right,
over who God favors in the fight...
as though the one is washed of sin,
as if we know which side will win.

Praying apart while we are alive,
we fill a church when someone has died
that we may pay our respects for the dead...
yet what divided us has not fled.

May the Spirit bind us all together
in love for our God
that we may live with Him forever-
Amen, amen, amen!

Whose way is right...
who is more precious in His sight?
How can one way to love Him be wrong?
Do not we all belong to Him?
Are we not all loved the same
as we all proclaim His Name?
Jesus, Lord of all...
His Father hears a sparrow fall-
He surely hears our plaintive call
for Him.

Born for all who will return to sand,
and crucified at our sinful hands
to live again, despite our shame
that we may live to praise His Name...
He came for all of us, not just some
that we may see His Kingdom come
and know that death can't crucify love,
whose Spirit raises us above
what can divide us.

May the Spirit bind us all together
in Love for our God
that we may live with Him forever...together.
Amen, amen, amen!

A PRAYER

Author: Pushpalata Venugopalan

Poem: A PRAYER

Dear Lord!

Let me fail before I succeed,
For success better I may savor;
Humble I may still be,
And always in sight may You be!

Let me fall before I rise,
Struggle I must to reach heights;
In honest glory I be crowned,
For what price success that rides on favors?

Let me be poor before I be rich,
My spiritual goal I never lose sight;
The worth of riches I’d better comprehend
And my whole world do not the riches become!
