Two Poems from our Sad, Grief, Sympathy, Broken Heart Poetry Collection

Insomnia

Author: Wendy Lowdermilk

Poem:
Insomnia

I dread the night when darkness creeps in and
my nerves start to wake
I am exhausted, too tired to sleep, too numb
to move, too frustrated to think
My eyes burn, my skin is pale, my mouth is dry
I want to scream
I toss and I turn, I pace, I cry
And still, sleep does not come

TO DADDY

Author: Katy Thompson

Poem: TO DADDY

There's a hole in my soul
Just like in the song
When we would sing
And car dance
All day driving in the car

There's a hole in my soul
It remembers
When your hug would make the whole day better
Tea parties, football games, and summer afternoons
When I would catch outfield balls
Just to be with you
And that glimmer of pride
In your eyes
Whenever you looked at me

It remembers
When you first taught me how to smile
I learned you had to laugh and smile
With your heart not just your face
And then your eyes
And everything else
Would just fall into place

It remembers
When you were sick
And kept struggling to say
I love you
Through a tongue too dry
And a body too weak
To speak

There's a hole in my soul
Which can never be replaced
Everyday I wish you were here
To guide me, to help me, to love me
And to tell me I am
Your beautiful little girl
With that glimmer of pride
In your eyes
