Two Poems from our Sad, Grief, Sympathy, Broken Heart Poetry Collection

DADDY'S SILENT GOOD-BYE

Author: Sandy Patton

Poem:
DADDY'S SILENT GOOD-BYE

  Desperately searching powder blue eyes
Once so sparkling and alive with mischief
Now pale and cloudy with a faraway gaze
Praying for that small glint of recognition
Or perhaps remembrance
Sadly, meeting only his steady blank stare

Who is this wheelchair-bound stranger
So frail and alone - endlessly chain-smoking
Silent tears of frustration bathing his face
As he struggles to untangle bits and fragments
Of once familiar faces and names
Memories hopelessly lost for eternity

Why must this final good-bye take so long
And cause such wretched pain
Forever reversing the roles of child and father
One, overnight, becoming guardian and protector
Ultimately, finally, reluctantly, a decision maker
The other, pitifully reduced to a helpless, petulant child.

TO MY LITTLE GIRL

Author: Nicole Zumot

Poem: TO MY LITTLE GIRL

Be careful what you do, my love,
as you grow up this fast.
don't wish away your youth too much
or wallow in the past.

Be careful who you talk to
and who it is you trust.
And one day when the time comes,
be stronger than your lust.

Be careful of the choices
that you will have to make.
And know the consequences
that only you will take.

But most of all, be careful,
cause one day he will come,
and fill your heart with pleasure,
and make your knees go numb.

He'll tell you that he loves you
and end it with a kiss.
but you must not be blinded
when all you see is bliss.

Don't give away your heart, my love,
'cause then it can be broke.
And you'll be left with nothing
but all the words he spoke.

Don't trust him when he holds you
don't let your heart believe,
that he will always love you
and he will never leave.

Of all the things your careful of
please keep this down inside:
What you do not want trampled on
you'll always have to hide.

Don't open up to someone
when one day he will part.
'Cause all that you'll have left from him
is just a broken heart...
