Two Poems from our Sisters Poetry Collection

BABY JEWEL

Author: Beaudy Camacho

Poem:
BABY JEWEL

  mama told me calmly
of how babies form and grow
she said i've grown up greatly
and its time that i should know

that when a stone meets with a diamond
and they begin to glow
the magic starts to happen
and the baby's blood of rubies start to flow

the golden heart begins to beat
and the crystal lungs soon breathe
the emerald eyes begin to blink
and the bronzed hair start to weave

the pearly bones are sturdy
and the topaz muscle firm and strong
the brain of steel is calmly waiting
to awake that nap of nine months long

its time for mom to name her!
but her name what shall it be?
i think we'll name her jewel,
a baby diamond in the rough...
i hope she stays real precious
because being an older sister will be tough

A life far away from life

Author: Divya Prasad

Poem: A life far away from life

Seen in the meadows
amidst the towering,
swaying pastures,
in a heaven that fell on earth
boundaries endlessly drawn,
had I seen her, a little girl.

The stare of her eyes,
so innocent, so narcotic.
The smile on her face,
so mischievous, so refreshing.
But why she refused
to come and hug me?

She answered, in a week voice.
"Lonely, I shall be left again,
hear to what I say,
and you will be running miles away."
"Should I depart from you,
let me depart from this world," I said.

"In the many defects
that God injected in poeple,
he was kind enough
to let me have only one.
The big one.
I have AIDS."

"I shall be your sister,
we shall spend time together
living a life far away
from the busy city
where people 'have' time,
but for themselves."
