Two Poems from our Sisters Poetry Collection

HOW BLESSED

Author: Barbara Haskell

Poem:
HOW BLESSED

  Encouraged by a beautiful book,
that you gave to me,
I take out paper and pen,
to tell the world with you for a sister,
how blessed I have been.
I was so alone, lost and scared
and friends I thought would care,
very simply, were not there.
Regarding me, rumor followed lie
and penniless, the dirt was my mattress
and my roof was the sky.
Unable to walk another day,
body full of pain, exhausted,
everyone turned me away...
except one sister.
She gave me food, shelter
and my dignity.
So, encouraged by a beautiful book
that you gave to me,
I take out paper and pen,
to tell the world,
with you for a sister,
how blessed I have been.

MY SISTER

Author: Charllena Guinn

Poem: MY SISTER

MY SISTER

She has six kids
That sometimes she forbids
And to get them back she don’t intend
She thinks her husband is the latest trend

She dedicated her life to drugs
Chose to marry that thug
In and out of jail she stays
A bad name she displays

She has lost her families trust
Her mother she has cussed
In her eyes
She has cut the family ties

She lives in shame
With a lot of pain
All she does is play mind games
And everyone else is the blame

Her family still has faith
But filled with a lot of hate
Their even trying to cope
But all she wants is the dope

Her family loves her so
But there’s no way to know
If she will ever see
The person she could be.
