WHY WE LOVE IT

Author: Elizabeth Green

Poem:
WHY WE LOVE IT

When we step on that court spattered with maroon lines and graffiti, all our problems are left in the locker room

We don’t have to worry about our earlier altercations with our moms, don’t have to anticipate their emotions exploding in a big BOOM

Our boy problems no longer affect our moods or our lack of satisfaction

All we’re looking for is the ball so we may execute our plan of action

We’re playing the game we love with the girls we adore, we’re being coached by awesome coaches who’ve already had their 40 minutes of fame on this floor

We control our brains and God moves our feet, with this combination we can’t be beat

The only people who can control the fate of this game is our team and the opposing girls who are only looking for fame

The crowd is yelling to show that they care, the cheerleaders…well… we don’t notice they’re there

We take the game and make it our own, their team is going to be sad on their way home

We show everyone girls CAN play football, yet happily take our fouls as we watch the other girls fall

When we step off the court we again face all our problems and fears, yet we anticipate our next game like it’ll be our last for years

A View From the Top

Poem: A View From the Top

Hanging across the proud chest,
The rythmic heartbeat striving for more;
Faded glory hanging beside.

To be hung proud among the great,
A since of pride few have tasted.
Me; for I am the gift to champions.
I am the ultimate prize.
