Two Poems from our Sports Poetry Collection

The Season

Author: Robert Miller

Poem:
The Season

  Cheers heard loudly
clapping hands,
popcorn,peanuts
and hot dog stands.
Lines,gates
bats and balls,
infield dirt
and outfield walls.
Batters box
catchers,hitters
pitchers mounds
sliders,splitters.
Chewing tobaccos
gums and seeds,
media coverage
division leads.
Digital scores
scoreboards lit,
never expected
timely hits.
Pleased,happy
irate faces,
bad calls good calls
stolen bases.
Homepark energy
glory sings,
division titles
championship rings.

THE HOT CORNER

Author: Taylor Harper

Poem: THE HOT CORNER

the third most Important? ,is
the least to say.
Givin the blink of an eye, it’s smoked
coming your way.
to think,
not a chance you’ll stand,
to react,

One, from the furious spiraling
grass residue finds itself in just the right spot.
But, not too much, barely enough to moisten

Two – seam placement.
now that you’ve gathered yourself
prepare for an explosion of perfection
while at the last second
he enters the outskirts of your eyesight.

Three, the last stretch connects
and relief is finally found inside yourself,
inside the ball,
on the palm of the first baseman.

It’s a smeared recollection looking back on it all
you try to wonder how you did it all
so fast,
somehow your mind forces itself to, just forget,
a shift from making a play to,
now if I can just get a hit.
