Two Poems from our Sports Poetry Collection

THE HOT CORNER

Author: Taylor Harper

Poem:
THE HOT CORNER

the third most Important? ,is
the least to say.
Givin the blink of an eye, it’s smoked
coming your way.
to think,
not a chance you’ll stand,
to react,

One, from the furious spiraling
grass residue finds itself in just the right spot.
But, not too much, barely enough to moisten

Two – seam placement.
now that you’ve gathered yourself
prepare for an explosion of perfection
while at the last second
he enters the outskirts of your eyesight.

Three, the last stretch connects
and relief is finally found inside yourself,
inside the ball,
on the palm of the first baseman.

It’s a smeared recollection looking back on it all
you try to wonder how you did it all
so fast,
somehow your mind forces itself to, just forget,
a shift from making a play to,
now if I can just get a hit.

TRACK DISTRICTS

Author: Michelle Hall

Poem: TRACK DISTRICTS

The pressure is on with the bell lap to go,
The coaches are roaring "Move up, go with them."
I slip away into my own concentration,
300 to go I hear.
I have to wait to make my move,
1,2,3,4,5 I count,
Thats what place I'm in now
Top four go to state and I don't want my dreams crushed,
I tell my self I have to do this,
200 to go and the pace speeds up,
the first girl breaks away ,
The second close behind
3,4,5 we are left
Who will go and who will stay?
Here we are rounding out the curve
100 to go and my heart is racing,
Its a sprint from here out
There still ahead.
But I can do it,
I dig deep and get on ,my toes
3,4 you're gone
Inch by inch I lean and I'm there.
