Two Poems from our Sports Poetry Collection

No. 10

Author: Phil Valentino

Poem:
No. 10

There was an Italian player from back in the day that played baseball the right way.

He had a disease unknown to the fans because he was a proud and humble man.

He would come to the park each day and have fun each time he would play.

He would never gripe, moan or cry,
When he came to the park,
there was a gleam in his eyes.

There was a glide in his stride
When he walked in the grass
Knowing he would do his best to kick some ass.

Cubs Prayer

Poem: Cubs Prayer

Oh Lord why have you forsaken us with a century of misery and agony

All we ask of thee is a trip to the World Series

Deliver upon us a championship ring
So we can show the nonbelievers we are a winning team

Lead us not into last place, but come October let us be setting the pace

So we can show all the MLB that we’re a team of destiny
