Two Poems from our Sports Poetry Collection

YOU WIN!

Author: Jameson Dixon

Poem:
YOU WIN!

  The clock is ticking
My opponent is beside me
All I can hear are the fans behind me
A tear flashes through my eye
I don't think I'm going to win
Then all of a sudden I hear the wind
Saying, keep going, keep going, you're going to win
then all of a sudden my opponent gives in
he trips over his shoe face first to the ground
And I yell back at him and call him clown
With the rhythm of my voice and the swiftness of the wind I crossed the finish line and the ref. said, YOU WIN!!!

FOUR HUNDRED

Author: Tyler Winters

Poem: FOUR HUNDRED

The wind is hard
I hear the gun
Boom!
We are off
I am taking the lead
The wind is pushing against me like a truck
As we reach the last 200 meters
I can barely run
My legs are rubber
And my arms feel 100 pounds each
I notice lane two coming out
I sprint harder
I win!
