Two Poems from our Summer Poetry Collection

ANOTHER DAY

Author: Candice Dunham

Poem:
ANOTHER DAY

  Hot days, cold nights
Who knows which way the wind will blow
On this vast terrain
Of tumbleweed and dried up grass
Across the prairie plain
The sunset sleeping down
Upon the amber hills of sand
Casting shadows of colors
Down upon this barren land
In hues of yellow
And tones of purple
I sit upon this dusty rock
Watching another day go by
And waiting for another soon to be
When birds again will sing
As the sun will rise
And other creatures of this land
Will wake to a brand new day
Another step of life
To the end of time

THE DAY I WAS ABLE TO SEE

Author: Gabrielle Crichlow

Poem: THE DAY I WAS ABLE TO SEE

The summer I was fifteen
I was celebrating my upcoming birthday
Waiting for the clock to strike twelve
Excited about being a year older
Waiting for what was to come
The following day.
Ding, ding, ding!!!
The clock struck twelve
My birthday came.
August had arrived.
I became sixteen.
I drifted to sleep on pink clouds
And woke up bathed in blue sunlight
Seven hours later
Getting ready for the coming day.
I was sixteen!!!! Yaa!!!!
I felt so blessed
I had to thank God
For letting me see that day,
The day I was able to see.
