Two Poems from our Summer Poetry Collection

TWENTY-FOUR HOURS OF A SUMMER DAY

Author: Antayah Jennings

Poem:
TWENTY-FOUR HOURS OF A SUMMER DAY

  Warm air
A soft breeze
The smell of honeysuckle

The sun is bright
And the sky pure blue
Birds chirp love songs
Titled “I Love You”

Recognize the art of life!

Gentle drops begin to fall
Brown skin glistens from the summer rain
The streets are quiet

Sun and moon switch places
Darkness captures daylight
Eyes twinkle like the stars above

The rain left a misty reminder.

Street lights glow
And now it’s time to go
Time to say goodnight
Tomorrow, another beautiful cycle

WHAT ARE MY THOUGHTS

Author: Isabella Pernice

Poem: WHAT ARE MY THOUGHTS

What are my thoughts?
What are my thoughts?
I asked myself yesterday,
Don’t run around, and bump your head,
Listen child, are you planning ahead

It isn’t all sunshine and roses,
But it’s not all dim and dread,
And when the young morning rises,
She cuddles her teddy in bed

And as the sweet birds are singing,
For they are making their homely nest,
Its ice cream and daffodil honey,
That she’s thinking of instead

What are my thoughts?
What are my thoughts?
I ask myself today,
I’d love to make the ice cream,
And watch the bees make honey

I’ll share my thoughts and dreams with you
If I think you’re worthy cause,
And as my gift unfolds you see,
There’ll be a slightly pause

My footprints that may walk with yours
Could you tell me how that feels?
A home for me to rest my heart,
With ginger bread and home cooked meals

What are my thoughts?
What are my thoughts?
I ask myself tomorrow,
I’d share my ice cream and daffodil honey
To someone who knows of sorrow?

I’ll give my heart and share by soul
As I prepare for wondrous things,
And if there should come a time tomorrow,
To watch the birds sing

So I’ll give my heart but only half
Shall it come back to me?
And only then, will I share my soul,
For my spirit will be set a free

What are my thoughts?
What are my thoughts?

What are my thoughts right now?

What are my thoughts?
What are my thoughts?

There will be a thought somehow.
