Two Poems from our Summer Poetry Collection

WHAT SUMMER BRINGS

Author: Margaret Peirson

Poem:
WHAT SUMMER BRINGS

I can hear the rippling of the tide
as I watch the children playing in the sand
trying to make circles and tracks with the various colored seashells they've just uncovered

And then one by one they would rise and take their white paper cup and dash to the ocean's edge filling it to the brim with salty water hoping they wouldn't spill it before they reach their destination

While I just sit in silence, my eyes enjoying this glorious moment of what summer brings
remembering, remembering, at one time, I too was one of them

DREAM

Author: Holly Rautenstrauch

Poem: DREAM

Is that you hiding behind my mind?
Cause I think about you all the time
Within my dreams, I see you there
Not knowing if you really exist
It's so hard not to care
Is it possible to fall in love?
Even if you aren't real?
Knowing every detail of you
Tell me please
Could all these feelings be true?
I know your heartbeat
But not your name
As I take a seat
I start to feel the pain
now, who shall I blame?
o0o, i know!
My mother for not letting me go
There's only so much you can take
before your heart takes over
And you start to quake
Eyes becoming bloodshot
Scared to death
It's so hard to fight these fears
Just try to take a breath
Two choices, live or die
Most likely you'll survive
