Without me there

Author: Heather Mcallister

Poem:
Without me there

  When you are all alone
And realize what you've done
Do you wish upon a star?
The first one you see - you know?
The way we used to do
Looking out the car window
And then your wish-
Is it what I long for it to be?
"I wish - wherever my daughter is -
I hope she's not like me"
And do you have a picture -
That's in your pocket everyday?
And when you think of me
Do you take it out,
And wonder what I look like now?
When it's a cold winter day -
With lots of snow on the ground
Do you look outside and see us -
You and me playing in the snow?
Socks on hands
Trying to make the igloo that you promised?
And when you wake up in the morning
Do you watch all the same cartoons?
Make a big bowl of frosted flakes
And dump the sugar in
Just like we used to?
When you bake your homemade biscuits
Do you still make a bear biscuit for me?
And sit it at the table,
Just like I'm right next to you?
And when you go to the pool to swim
Do you see me?
The smallest one of them all
Swimming like a fish,
Shining in the summer sun
And when you're sick
Do you ever ask me to stay?
"Don't go to school", you say,
"Stay home and take care of me"
Just like you used to?
Do you ever lie down at night
Telling stories - magnificent stories
To my five-year-old ghost
That has been haunting you for years?
When I wish upon a star -
That first star I see -
You know -
That one that waits for you and me
And I make a wish for you - mom
A wish I can't say because
It might just not come true

Undying breath

Author: Samantha Berry

Poem: Undying breath

In my dreams a tiny bird flies high
Miniature wings grazing the endless blue sky
Within my dreams I feel so small within my angel child's eyes
Looking across the pillowy softness of a cloud,
thinking life here is too blissful to be allowed.

Singing songs, I skip from rainbow to rainbow
Watching angels scattered within the satinyclouds And I know as soon as I'm able, my dreams will fly past

Along with a whirlwind of sorrows and doubts
I kiss good-bye to my angel wings
Tumbling down within a tunnel of sounds
I reach out a shaking hand
To touch the sorrows as they drive me within

Twisting and turning in a soundless scream
this is not at all what it had seemed
My mind reels and my lungs seem to sing
A ray of light glints upon my wedding ring
My lungs still scream for air they want
As I slowly drift into darkness into
My undying breath
