Two Poems from our Tributes, Memorials Poetry Collection

POPPIES-CRIMSON RED

Author: Greg Gillis

Poem:
POPPIES-CRIMSON RED

  Standing silently on Remembrance Day,

We show our love in a special way.

Wearing a poppy, crimson red,

Reminds us of soldiers,

Now long dead.

They gave their lives for country and home,

In fields far away,

At times alone.

They proved their love,

Their duty too, fighting for freedom

For me and you.

Take up a torch and hold it high,

Keep your faith for those who died.

Wearing a poppy,

Crimson red,

Reminds us of soldiers,

Now long dead.

The anniversary: 9-11-03

Author: Heather Mcbroom

Poem: The anniversary: 9-11-03

Afterwards we wept and lit candles.

The white day was perfect,
If you didn't count the humanity
Raining down with the ashes
To bury our astonished shoes.

Today it is raining also.
But we have faced our fears
And learned what we are.
Let the triumphant tears fall.
