Two Poems from our Tributes, Memorials Poetry Collection

ONE NATION

Author: Dustin Barral

Poem:
ONE NATION

  God
One nation under.
Is it really?
Can it be that a tragedy,
would return us to our beginning.
We started out
founded on the principal of the bible,
And God in every school.
But now he's gone,
and violence erupts, and who do we blame?
Everything but the fact,
that we need God in America, again.
We need to remember,
What our pledge says,
One nation under,
God

NEVER FORGOTTEN

Author: Cecily Benton

Poem: NEVER FORGOTTEN

Alone in my mind,
Cradled on the floor,
The assents of your love;
Comfort me once more.

Before the tears can meet my eyes,
The memory of your smile,
Does once again rise.

Before I scream from pain so deep,
Into the night,
While everyone’s asleep.

I see your face,
Not quite clear,
As if dazed in a dream,
You seem so near.

Remembering your voice,
Sweet as sugar,
Smooth as butter,
You’d tell the world you loved me,
Never would you murmur.

Too good for earth,
Deserving more,
An angel in disguise,
That’s what you were.

Now an angel in full.
In heaven you dwell,
Guarding over me,
Seeing that I’m well.

You’ll never be forgotten,
In celebration of your life,
I’ll pour out a little liquor,
Then wish you goodnight.
