OUR WISDOM

Author: Adel Saleeb

Poem:
OUR WISDOM

  We the people, as we sailed across the sea;
Fought Neptune’s wild waves till we got to the shore
Seeking a land of justice , where we were meant to be
Dreamt of a home of virtue, and the great Thomas More
We the people, young, old, small and grand
Descendants of mankind from all over the land
Do ordain a constitution that is so wisely planned.
One that, for our children, will always guarantee
A life so safe and prosperous in the land of the free
We the people, despite our names or colors,
Here would establish one nation under God
Let those who do not respect these manners
Go, where they belong, stained with shame and mud.
We the people, vest power upon a president
Who will not be soft, nor will he be so cruel.
Who recommends such measures we see fit and expedient
And swears to execute his office, to serve the people, not to rule.

AN ELEGY FOR LOVE LOST

Author: Tali Longkumer

Poem: AN ELEGY FOR LOVE LOST

Winter ceases, spring leaps by
and winter arrives again
but lo! summer halted- forever
and the wind's ne'er the same

Later in life you cross'd the barrier
so young we played and laughed together
in the fields a memory to cherish
oh you cross'd so young.

And that little partition meant forever
o how it hurts to see you gone
even to the grief founded no solace
even the tears cometh I sorrow

How cruel death is I've known
when moments we live comes to end
o we are a soft twig
notch'd 'mid gusts of scary wind
any moment we shall leave.

Summer ne'er comes and ne'er shall
yet taking this line down
slowly, in my heart I moan-
we meet in another better world
whence we ne'er bade goodbye.
