Two Poems from our Tributes, Memorials Poetry Collection

The Lesson, from the King

Author: Florida Hoxha

Poem:
The Lesson, from the King

  Imagine an oppressive lifestyle,
Imagine segregation,
Imagine hate and spitefulness,
Infused within a nation.
Today we live in freedom,
And we don’t know any of these things,
But we still fail to understand,
The disturbance that ignorance brings,
A benevolent and noble man paved the way,
So we can all live in freedom today.
We should all thank him, black or white,
For his peaceful approach and valiant might.
And although he is not among us now,
His legacy continues somehow.
But one question still remains,
And maybe it's not too late,
What will you teach your kids?
Is it love...or hate?

If Only

Author: Autumn Frizzell

Poem: If Only

If I could keep a secret and never ever tell
If life was something grand and swell.
If your first true love never went away
If your heart could always be happy and that’s how it would stay.
If life kept going on
and song birds kept singing their beautiful song
If time moved slow when lying in bed
If love never ever had to end
If clouds could carry us all away
when we are having a bad day
If all friendships were true
If there was real meaning in the words I love you
If hearts were never broken
and bad words never spoken
If you could come back to me
If I didn’t have to mourn you, and silently scream
If the feeling of pleasure was always new
and I didn’t have to spend long nights thinking of you
If true love was always near
and you whispered sweet nothings into my ear.
If everyone were kind
and all children did mind
If time never ceased
If this world was all peace.
If treasures were easily found
and everyone kept their feet on the ground
If no one ever had their heads in the sky
And no one ever had to die.
If the skies were always a bright baby blue
and every word spoken was always true.
If trust was always real
If everyone made peace a deal.
If no one was ever lost
and nothing ever cost
If stars always shone bright
If dark were always light
If dreams were all real
And if love was a bonded seal
If I never had to cry
If we never had to say goodbye.
