Two Poems from our Tributes, Memorials Poetry Collection

Old Footprints

Author: Gwyn Shaw

Poem:
Old Footprints

  Following old footprints
to places I’ve been before,
Greeting old memories
on which I thought I’d
closed the door.
Reliving the many moments
that once inhabited
my mind,
Dodging the shattered pieces
of the broken heart
left behind.
Catching stolen glimpses
of secrets best left
unknown,
Visiting the ruins
of the life that is
my own.

Quitessence

Author: Candace Patrick

Poem: Quitessence

Your essence is what must keep you going,
even if the world is against you when you start showin’
I won’t sugarcoat,
it will get hard
just don’t give up, when the bay becomes your alarm
The next 18 years is guaranteed to be theirs,
But don’t overlook the love you’ll share

Don’t listen to people judge you about your mistake
God has a plan for all of us
You’re right in your place
and don’t let heartbreak slow you down
If he can’t love you when there is more of you to love
don’t cry now, because he never meant not one
simple hug

Don’t let your dreams float away
as your child grows up they’ll want to
see their mother succeed in some way
and don’t let the world hold you back
just open up the bible, God got’s ya back

There is no solution to the future
but that doesn’t mean don’t look ahead
just live day by day in the present
the essence is always your
presence
