Two Poems from our Tributes, Memorials Poetry Collection

TO RISE

Author: Donald Milhouse

Poem:
TO RISE

As the whole of all that we are,
in the midst of all that we have become,
there is a light that shines upon us.
It is a beacon which resonates from a cloud of dust, and it is this light that has shown the world the resolve of this great nation.
There is a new America, one that is unified with a great strength, a strength that lies not within our wealth, but within our hearts. One that has shown that "We Are Our Brother's Keeper." Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for a friend.
It is that spirit which has brought this great nation together. Out of the ashes of despair we truly have become united. In the face of hate and uncertainty, God has given us strength. In our greatest hour of despair, He has given us the ability...

To Rise.

God Bless America

AMERICA'S FINEST

Author: Brittany Oxley

Poem: AMERICA'S FINEST

He's up before the sun, ready to do it again,
With nothing on his mind but his country to defend.
He's surrounded by many, but still feels alone,
In his line of work he has a heart of stone.

He takes his life day by day,
Never knowing if it's going to end in a horrid way.
He prays to the Lord to watch over his wife,
To bless and protect her while he defends her life.

He's proud to be an American tried and true,
He lays his life on the line for me and you.
The battlefield is his home, his gun his best friend,
He wonders to himself, will hell ever end.

He knows what it's like to take a life,
Doing what he does, there's no wrong from right.
His friends are his brothers he'll do anything for,
He'll stand by their side for forever more.

He lays down his head every night,
Thinking about tomorrow's fight.
America's his life his place to save,
The land of the free the home of the brave.

Blood, guts, glory, there's nothing he ain't seen,
God bless him, a United States Marine.
