Two Poems from our Tributes, Memorials Poetry Collection

THE MIDAS TOUCH

Author: Kamini Vasudevan

Poem:
THE MIDAS TOUCH

ON A MOONLIT NIGHT,
FAR FROM THE MADDING STREETS
AND THE MUNDANE MUSIC,
OF THE NOISY CITY OF KARNAL,
ON THE TERRACE OF A LITTLE MANSION,
SAT A CURIOUS GIRL WITH AN INNOCENT SMILE,
GAZING AT THE DARK BLUE SKIES.

THE MOON, SANS GRAVITY,
SEEMED TO POSSESS IT THEN
AS SHE LONGED TO REACH FOR IT...
THE INNOVATIVE THINKER,
GREW WITH THE WILDEST OF DREAMS
TO FLY TO THE MOON.
THE DREAM BECAME A DESIRE AND
THE DESIRE BECAME A REALITY
AS SHE SHOT UP TO THE MOON
FOR A SHORT SUMMER VACATION.
IN THE DARK BLUE LAND,
SHE MET THE GLITTERING MOON
WHO BECAME HER BEST FRIEND, SOON.
A BOND OF FRIENDSHIP GREW BETWEEN THE TWO
AND HAPPINESS GUIDED THE DAYS THROUGH.
THE VACATION WAS OVER,
AND UNWILLINGLY,THE GIRL HAD TO LEAVE,
PARTING WAS ALWAYS A SCARE,
AS FOR THE MOON SHE WAS PRECIOUS AND RARE.
THOUGH THE MOON ALLOWED HER TO LEAVE,
ON HER WAY BACK TO EARTH, THE MOON
WITH A SILVERY MIDAS TOUCH,
TURNED HER INTO A STAR AND MADE HER GLITTER.
FOR ONE SINGLE MOMENT
IT WAS VERY DARK IN INDIA,
AS THE LITTLE GIRL WAS KALPANA CHAWLA
WHO DID MOTHER INDIA PROUD
BY REACHING THE MIGHTY MOON.
BUT, THERE WAS NO RETURN FOR HER,
AND SHE CONTINUED TO GLOW
IN THE MAGICAL BLUE LAND,
AS THE SILVERY TOUCH LASTED EVER, AND EVER AFTER.

TRUE WORDS SPOKEN

Author: Troy Stromer

Poem: TRUE WORDS SPOKEN

I had a heart, and I had a soul,
But both have now been eaten whole,
A tragic end to a wonderful beginning,
One new Christian, while another still sinning,
A new hope found, yet another life lost,
My heart and soul taken with minimal cost,
Not to me, to the one who’s taken,
A whole new heart, while one’s still faking,
Hatred is filling up in my hands,
Which one day will burst filling all the lands,
I try to speak up; but get pushed down,
Having dirt kicked in my face, while I lie bleeding on the ground,
The soft touch and look of an angel on my face,
But still I turn, and continue in the footsteps of disgrace.
