Two Poems from our Tributes, Memorials Poetry Collection

MANHATTAN AT NIGHT

Author: Rosanne Catalano

Poem:
MANHATTAN AT NIGHT

  42nd Street, full of light
A city that never sleeps
Watch out, it may make you weep
Buildings stuck together as if they
Were talking with one another

If not careful
The predators come out at night
To take away your innocence
But we have the Lord on our side
Won't let them get us down

The upside of Manhattan nights
Are the Broadway lights
and Stars to be seen as
They perform magical fantasies

During times of tragedy
All the people of Manhattan
come together
To help one another
Manhattan at night
is full of God's light

Beware the evil lurking 'round the corner
The Devil we can beat
The Lord's light shines down on
Manhattan at night

All His children at play
is what makes our Lord happy
and gives us Light to shine
On the evil side of life

ANZAC

Author: Alexis Nairn

Poem: ANZAC

They left our shores
To fight another men’s wars
Showing the greatest of courage.
They were sent off to fight
For a cause thought true
That their bravery was talked of long after.
During the landing
On this very day
Many a young life was forfeit.
Death and destruction
Was witnessed by all
As comrades fell all around them.
After the battles,
And sea of bloodshed,
Were the enemy finally defeated.
Our families rejoiced
When loved ones came home
While many wept bitter tears.
We owe our lives
And indeed our freedom
To those who were lost and returned.
We find ourselves now
Remembering them
90 years to the day
When many a young soldier's life was lost
On that fateful first ANZAC Day.
As the last post rings out,
And the sun starts to set,
We will remember them.
Lest We Forget.
