Two Poems from our Valentines Day Poetry Collection

A DIFFERENT KIND OF SONG

Author: Nadine Mcvernon

Poem:
A DIFFERENT KIND OF SONG

  I am not a lyricist
though I can't deny it
to put my feelings into words
I do often try it

Something from so deep
existent from my soul
Do these words sound cheap
will they reach my goal?

to say how everything about us is, so, so real
is difficult to put in scribe but this is how I feel-
That no matter how hard I try to write a sonnet or a poem
for you to crawl inside my heart is the only passage known

To let you see that you’re my life, you are my core, my home
you are my man, you’re my best friend, you're where my passions roam

Sometimes I think why bother writing
these words sound so cliche’?
but maybe with a lot of practice
they may let you know one day

That when I talk, I talk to you and when it’s you I hold
with bodies forged together is when I’m truly whole
and that no matter how hard I try, if these words sound kind of wrong
When we lie together my body sings a different kind of song.

MORNING ROSE

Author: Benjamin Kotey

Poem: MORNING ROSE

I was once walking down a sunset day
When I saw a bird,
Sitting on a branch of a rose tree
And singing a song that was so appealing
To my ears
So I took my pen and paper
And begun to write the words of the song
It says,
"Come back sun,
Don't leave me here alone,
I have been sitting here for too long a time,
Waiting and watching your growing beauty
As the day unfolds like a morning rose,
The wind is turning cold
And the day is growing old
But my story still remains untold,
You know you are my only comforter
In times like this,
But I can't stop you from going home
Come tomorrow morning
And you will see me here, still waiting
Hoping you will return with my hope,"
Soon I saw myself in the world of the bird
Weeping and waving at you
As the sun closes her door,
Hoping you've heard my words.
